MAX485 Waterproof Backpack Case

The MAX485 is Panaro’s first case designed to be carried on your back. It is a full IP67 hard shell with the same latches, seal and certifications as the rest of the MAX range, with shoulder strap mounting and extra fixing points built into the body.

Internal space is 485 x 357 x 201mm, or 30 litres, split between a 79.6mm lid and a 121.5mm base. It weighs 3.44kg empty, which is what makes the backpack format workable. A hard case this size normally starts around 5kg.

Why a hard shell backpack

Soft packs protect against rain and not much else. A hard case protects properly but ties up a hand and has to be set down to open. This sits between the two: it seals to IP67, survives a drop, and still leaves both hands free on a walk-in.

That matters for anyone carrying fragile gear somewhere a trolley will not go. Survey work, drone operations, remote site inspection, dive kit, camera bodies and lenses on a hike.

Empty or cubed foam

Empty is the base configuration (MAX485), giving you 30 litres of clear volume for your own foam, pouches or dividers.

The foam version (MAX485S) is not the same arrangement top and bottom. The base gets cubed pick-and-pluck foam you pull out by hand to shape a pocket, and the lid gets convoluted foam, which presses down on the contents and holds them against the base rather than being cut away. It adds 470g.

For anything that travels often, we cut custom foam inserts in our Melbourne workshop from your drawings or from the equipment itself.

Marking and identification

The lid has a flat screen printing area and a recessed rectangular space for a resin label, so unit or asset marking sits flush rather than being stuck on top of a curve. Useful if you are running a fleet of these.

Certifications

IP67. ATA 300 Category 1 for air freight. STANAG 4280 and DEF STAN 81-41. MIL-STD 810H. UN4H2 for shipping lithium-ion batteries as dangerous goods. Fungus and fluid resistance tested. Datasheet is available for download below.
