    Hand-built in our Bayswater workshop using 10mm A-grade ply, Penn Elcom hardware, and ATA 300-rated materials.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a road case and a flight case?

Road cases and flight cases are the same thing. The terms are used interchangeably in Australia. Both refer to rugged protective cases built to ATA 300 specifications for transport by road, air, or sea. GigGear builds both custom road cases and flight cases to the same ATA 300 Category I standard.

Do you build road cases in Melbourne? Do you ship Australia-wide?

Yes. All GigGear road cases and flight cases are hand-built at our Melbourne workshop. We ship finished cases Australia-wide: Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and regional areas.

What is ATA 300 Category I certification?

ATA 300 is the Air Transport Association specification for reusable shipping containers. Category I is the highest of its three categories: a case built to survive a minimum of 100 round trips without failure. In practice it dictates the construction, not just the label. 10mm A-grade ply rather than thin panel stock, aluminium extrusion joinery, ball corners rated for repeated impact, and hardware that can be replaced rather than binned. It is the standard airlines, freight handlers, broadcasters and defence procurement ask for, which is why every GigGear road case is built to it as standard rather than as a paid upgrade.

Can you match an existing case?

Yes. Send us your existing case dimensions or bring it in and we'll replicate or modify it.

What's the minimum order quantity?

No minimum. We build single bespoke cases as well as bulk production runs. Volume pricing for orders of 5+.

Do you offer rack case builds?

Yes. We build standard 19" rack cases in any depth – from short-depth amp racks to full touring racks with wheels.

Can I choose my own hardware colour?

We stock hardware in standard silver/chrome and black. Custom powder-coat colours available for larger orders.

How long does it take?

Lead time depends on our current workshop volume. Contact us for a current lead time.

Can you build large or oversized road cases?

Yes. We build large road cases to any dimension: wardrobe cases, staging and drape cases, LED screen cases, and oversized equipment packers. There's no upper size limit beyond what fits on a truck. Every large case is engineered with reinforced extrusion, heavy-duty castors, and handles positioned for safe two-person lifting.

Do you offer a road case design service?

Yes. Every GigGear case starts with our in-house design service. Our engineers turn your dimensions, photos, or drawings into a full case design (lid placement, foam layout, rack strips, hardware, and wheels) before anything is cut. Start with our online quote form and we'll handle the CAD work.

Do your road cases come with a warranty?

Yes. Every GigGear case is workmanship guaranteed. Each case is Australian made, hand-built in our Melbourne workshop, and backed by 20+ years of case-making experience. If a workmanship issue arises, we make it right.
